Why Libs Trust System

Why Liberals Trust the System
   By Anne Doherty

Years ago, conservative commentator Michael Savage wrote a book called “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.” As a controversial talk show host with a dramatic stage name (his real name is Michael Weiner), Savage seemed to take advantage of angry conservatives with nowhere to express their frustration at the Left’s highjacking of American values.

Compared to now, those were carefree, innocent times.

Today, the Left not only promotes dysphoria on every level of life - gender, the environment, and government policies - they elect and appoint individuals who can barely function.

Joe Biden clearly suffers from cognitive decline. According to the New York Times, so does California senator Diane Feinstein. Pennsylvania senator and stroke victim John Fetterman has trouble stringing words together. Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine and one time pediatrician promotes frightening health policies.  Sam Brinton, a top Energy Department official in the Biden administration, has been accused for a second time of stealing luggage at a US Airport. This cross-dresser, apparently trolls expensive women’s luggage at airports even when he hasn’t been on a plane.

Then, there are less obviously debilitated officials. VP Kamala Harris speaks like a high school age pothead. Alexandria Octavio-Cortez, doing cooking spots on TikTok, can’t string an entire soundbite together without the magic of editing.

Why has liberalism gone from being a “mental disorder” to liberals voting for the mentally deranged and incompetent?  Barack Obama may’ve been a front for the powerful people, but for the most part he was a good front. Well spoken and calm, he appeared presidential - most of the time, anyway. In mind numbing contrast, today’s cast of Democrat characters has trouble finding their way off stage. Why?

Of course, leaders connected by earpiece to some staff person guiding their every move are puppets for a cadre of string pullers. More importantly, though, they serve to train up the populace for what writer and former Czech Republic President, Vaclav Havel called the “post-totalitarian system.” Democrats who vote for clearly incompetent leaders must trust in something. By trusting in a government system that somehow or other has their backs - by protecting abortion or offering free college or whatever- they don’t need leaders. Just as these voters shun responsibility for their own actions (hence the need for social safety nets), they don’t demand their leaders be responsible. Liberals trust the system, and that ultimately is the cause of the mental disorder.

According to Havel: The post-totalitarian system touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing the legal code; the repression of culture is called its development; the expansion of imperial influence is presented as support for the oppressed; the lack of free expression becomes the highest form of freedom; farcical elections become the highest form of democracy; banning independent thought becomes the most scientific of world views; military occupation becomes fraternal assistance. Because the regime is captive to its own lies, it must falsify everything. It falsifies the past. It falsifies the present, and it falsifies the future. It falsifies statistics. It pretends not to possess an omnipotent and unprincipled police apparatus. It pretends to respect human rights. It pretends to persecute no one. It pretends to fear nothing. It pretends to pretend nothing.”

Because the seeming security offered by the system means so much to Liberals, they are willing to deny what they see with their own eyes. Some do so unwittingly; these victims of mass hypnosis actually buy in to propaganda. Some do so simply not to rock the boat. Some see opportunity in exploiting the system.

According to Havel, “Individuals need not believe all these mystifications, but they must behave as though they did, or they must at least tolerate them in silence, or get along well with those who work with them. For this reason, however, they must live within a lie. They need not accept the lie. It is enough for them to have accepted their life with it and in it. For by this very fact, individuals confirm the system, fulfill the system, make the system, are the system.”

Because Liberals are the system, they willingly vote for incompetent leaders and against competent ones, like Trump - or even Dr. Oz, for that matter, when compared to Fetterman — because the competent ones threaten to destroy the system. In fact, the more incompetent the leader, the more proof that this all powerful system exists and that the voter can gain security from being part of it.

Liberalism is indeed a mental disorder.

The Gift of Living in Interesting Times

by Anne Doherty

"May you live in interesting times,” is an expression falsely attributed to an ancient Chinese curse. In fact, it was coined in 1936 by a British statesman in response to the German violation of the treaty at Locarno. Whether the origin of the curse was fake news or not is beside the point. Those words resonate today, just as much as they did on the eve of World War II.

However, I see living in interesting times as more of a gift than a curse because interesting times cause us to live more fully and recognize, if not appreciate, the impact our lives have on others.

As I write, many of us are still hashing over how the anticipated “Red Wave” that was supposed to sweep the country resulted in our just barely gaining control of the House. Explanations range from poor voter turn out in key counties to various levels of Democrat cheating. No doubt the truth varies from state to state and precinct to precinct. Thanks to the Internet, we know too much and too little; we are left with emptiness and doubt.

When I moved to San Francisco more than 20 years ago, I began to recognize carrying the flag for conservative values would be something I would be required to do for the rest of my life if I valued our democratic republic. I saw the Left’s money, power and determination to undermine average people. I tried to warn friends in the rest of the country about some of the things I saw or heard, let alone the destructive, often hateful, designs of powerful people I met in both the Bay Area and Hollywood. My friends didn’t believe me – even my Republican friends.

Today, average Republicans nationwide are finally on the same page. They understand what we are up against, and they are finally stepping up to do something about it. They are running for school board and city council; they are training as poll workers and poll challengers. They actually know the election laws in their state. In short, they understand the impact their lives have on others and see the folly of creating impact through reluctance and ignorance.

Republicans, who have always claimed to value personal responsibility, religious faith, the rule of law and the Constitution, are once again living their values.

And this is something to celebrate – for we do not have faith if we are afraid to stand our ground, and we are not taking responsibility for ourselves, our families or our communities if we turn a blind eye to what’s happening around us. We can only uphold the rule of law if we know the law and if that law makes sense to us, for the law must serve to strengthen our communities rather than tear them down.

Sure, what we’re fighting is complex and confusing. Our enemy has multiple faces: the WEF, China, big tech, big pharma, mainstream media, the entrenched Democrat bureaucracy we call the swamp, and even some of our own elected Republican representatives who gain from the chaos. But our solution is simple and elegant: embrace what we know and defend it.

Whether the solution is homeschooling our kids or running for office, whether it’s talking to our neighbors or writing an op ed, we know that sooner or later destructive, non-sensical woke-ness will bump up against reality and, when it does, our people will be ready with calming common sense and laws worth respecting.

The other thing about interesting times is that they come to an end. The status quo that survives depends on the nature of the conflict itself. Just as little children need boundaries to become moral adults, one could argue that revolutionary forces need boundaries so that they don’t destroy their cause in the process of fighting for it. Society has indeed become more compassionate and open minded since the 60’s; but in trying to make their legacy permanent, leftist idealists now oppose the same free speech and tolerance they once prized.

Republicans are the voice of compassion and reason, and that is also something to celebrate. If we think of history as a kind of pendulum and interesting times as the far reaches of that pendulum before it turns back the other way, we can see that twenty, forty, sixty years from now, Republicans could be the stewards of compassion, reason, faith and law. If we hang in there – the way President Trump, Governor DeSantis and our other shining lights do – we will make our mark on history again, just as we did when Lincoln freed the slaves.

So, being alive today, participating in history as we are, is indeed a gift. It’s a gift to be awake, alive and doing good. It’s a gift we can give to ourselves, to our children, to our neighbors and to generations to come.
